Sun Announces Release of Open Source NetBeans 5 IDE

Sun Microsystems, Inc. has announced the release of NetBeans 5.0 IDE. "NetBeans 5.0 IDE provides comprehensive support for building Java SE, Java EE, and Java ME applications and includes a variety of unique new features and significant enhancements such as NetBeans GUI Builder (formerly Project Matisse), that differentiates it from all other developer tools."

Released under the SPL as per their legal notice:

NetBeans software is developed and distributed under the Sun Public License (SPL). NetBeans software also makes use of additional libraries made available for use and distribution by other parties, including open-source projects.

The SPL is an OSI-approved license. I'm not sure what point you were trying to make?

If I'm not mistaken, he was revealing a fact that wasn't mentioned in the press release or the editor's comment. I thought it was an excellent addition to the story.

I don't think it adds anything of use to the story at all.
