MOTOROLA SUBSIDIARY METROWERKS TO ACQUIRE LINEO?
Rumors have surfaced of an impending acquisition of Lineo (aka
Embedix Inc.) by Motorola's Metrowerks software tools subsidiary. 
Metrowerks is well known for its popular CodeWarrior integrated
development environment (IDE), which is used for embedded system
software development.  Lineo and Metrowerks have had a long standing
strategic partnership including a $22.5 million investment by
Metrowerks in Lineo in September 2000.

1ST MULTIVENDOR EMBEDDED LINUX STANDARD NEARS RELEASE
The Embedded Linux Consortium's board of directors has started the
clock on final review of version 1.0 of the ELC Platform
Specification, according to an announcement sent to the ELC's
members. The draft spec was completed by the platform spec working
group in late October, triggering a 45-day review period that will
culminate in a vote cycle authorizing public distribution of the
world's first Embedded Linux standard.

UCLINUX AND LINUX HEADED FOR UNITY
Mainstream Linux is about to gain the ability to go much more deeply
embedded without the need for specialized toolchains.  Earlier this
month, Linus Torvalds announced inclusions for revision 2.5.46 of
the Linux kernel incorporating a number of uClinux patches.

SHARP UNVEILS "WORLD'S FIRST VGA RESOLUTION PDA"
Sharp unveiled what it calls "the world's first PDA with a
full-color VGA-resolution (640x480 pixel) LCD display" into the
Japanese market.  The SL-C700 also provides a built-in QWERTY
keyboard similar to that of a normal notebook keyboard (although

EMBEDDED LINUX POWERS NEW NEC HOME AUDIO/VIDEO SERVER
NEC has selected MontaVista Linux as the embedded operating system
within a new home audio/video server. The NEC AX10 home server is a
disk-based recorder for audio-visual applications and is one of the
"new style" of products developed by NEC as part of its personal
computer line.

The 10th annual Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) Boston took place
this week in the Boston, MA. The east coast's premier educational

systems was expected to attract more than 4,000 attendees as well as
