It isn't that significant to have an all-Gnome, or an all-KDE, set of applications. What's important is that all the user's applications work well together and have reasonably consistent interfaces. This can be achieved by using only KDE apps, or only Gnome apps, but only at the cost of sometimes giving up on the best application in some class. Better to do it by making sure that the interoperability standards are implemented correctly, that theming is consistently implemented, and so forth.

Excellent! Now they can start porting it to GNOME2 in the 1.3.x devel releases, since apparently 1.4 will be nothing more than a GNOME2 port of 1.2 (i.e. no features added, just a straight port). One more step to having an all-GNOME2 desktop with all GNOME2 apps (since Galeon is nearing completion on its GNOME2 port).

I think he means moving all GNOME1 apps to GNOME2, not that all apps need to be GNOME.
