NEW DELL SERVERS WITH DUAL CORE TECHNOLOGY DELIVER DRAMATIC PERFORMANCE INCREASES
Performance Increase of up to 79 Percent for PowerEdge 8501, Over 60 Percent Increase for PowerEdge
8302; MySQL, JBoss Offerings Extend Linux Support
ROUND ROCK, Texas, Aug. 8, 2005 - Dell continues to extend the capability of its enterprise product
line with todayâs introduction of two new PowerEdge servers featuring advanced Intel dual-core
processor technology.
The PowerEdge 830 and PowerEdge 850 servers provide the performance and power of two processing
units in a single socket to bring an affordable solution to customers facing increasing computing
demands. Both systems can deliver up to twice the memory of their predecessors, a choice of three
different processors, and advanced management features to help customers get even greater value and
flexibility from their investment.
The PowerEdge 830 is a single socket tower server for workgroup, remote office and small business
customers. It is designed for such diverse uses as Web serving, Internet access, or running
messaging, back-office, and productivity applications and with dual-core technology, delivers up to
62 percent greater performance than the PowerEdge 800.2
The PowerEdge 850 is a single-socket 1U (1.75 inch) rack mount server designed for small business
and cost-sensitive data center customers. It is ideal as a Web and infrastructure server and uses
next generation technologies to give customers scalability and headroom for future growth. With
advanced dual-core technology, the PowerEdge 850 delivers up to 79 percent greater
compute-intensive performance and up to 26 percent greater web-serving performance than its
predecessor, the PowerEdge 750.1.
"Dell is committed to integrating next generation technologies to drive investment protection and
productivity improvements for growing organizations," said Neil Hand, vice president worldwide
enterprise systems marketing and product management, Dell Product Group. "With dual-core
technology and other advanced features in systems like the PowerEdge 830 and 850, Dell is helping
customers to derive greater value from their IT investments, now and in the future."
The advanced features available on these systems give customers affordable choices to meet a wide
range of computing demands. The PowerEdge 830 offers optional hot-plug SCSI RAID Arrays, enhanced
PCI-Express capabilities and a tool-less chassis designed for reduced maintenance and installation
time. The PowerEdge 850 includes a new high-performance PCI-Express architecture and dual embedded
Gigabit NICs.
Additional features of the PowerEdge 830 and 850 include:
* Choice of 2.53GHz Intel Celeron, 2.8 or 3.6 GHz Intel P4 with 800MHz front side bus, or
3.0/3.2GHz Intel Pentium D dual-core processor;
* Intel E7230 chipset with advanced memory throughput that scales to 1067MHz front side bus to
support future processors
* Up to 8GB of DDR-2 SDRAM;
* Optional SATA drives or U320 SCSI drives.

management utilities, software and professional services help customers drive down their total cost
of ownership. Both servers come with Dellâs OpenManage Suite which offers numerous ease-of-use,
security and change management enhancements, simplified monitoring capabilities and streamlined
deployment tools to install new servers quickly. The tools in OpenManage are easy to use with
Web-based interfaces to allow anywhere access to IT assets. For more information on Dellâs

Dell also provides a full range of services that are designed to ease deployment and support at
remote locations. Customers can purchase the servers with the operating system pre-installed and
tested, or choose to have additional hardware or software custom installed, tested and configured
prior to shipment. Dell also offers a Server Installation Service that helps get a new server up
and running quickly, as well as a suite of Enterprise Services that helps customers maximize uptime
and maintain the continuing operation of their system. For more information, visit
