For Immediate Release
Linux System Management Provider, Open Country, Joins OSDL
BELMONT, Calif. and BEAVERTON, Ore., June 14, 2005 - Open Country, a provider
of IT systems management software for Linux® servers, blades, desktops and
appliances, today announced it is joining the Open Source Development Labs
(OSDL), a global consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux
in the enterprise. Open Country will participate, initially, in OSDL's
Desktop Linux (DTL) working group to enable the Linux-powered enterprise.
Open Country allows enterprise customers such as Intel and Cisco to build,
deploy, manage, and support their Linux systems with focused operational
deployments that reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). By supporting more
than 12 leading Linux distributions including Red Hat, Novell, Asianux and
Fedora, Open Country is driving the global adoption of Linux in the
enterprise.
"There is a misperception that the TCO for Linux is higher than that of
alternative systems," said Laurent Gharda, chief operating officer and
co-founder, Open Country. "By joining OSDL and its DTL working group, Open
Country will further help eliminate this erroneous assumption by raising
awareness and sharing knowledge about the manageability and reduced costs
involved in deploying Linux on the enterprise desktop."
OSDL's DTL working group is focused on five usage models, including basic
office, the transactional worker, technical workstation, fixed function and
general purpose. Its goal is to work with business and the open source
community to identify and remove barriers for Linux on the enterprise
desktop.
"Open Country is a valuable addition to OSDL's membership," said Stuart
Cohen, CEO of OSDL. "Their knowledge of Linux system provisioning and
management on the desktop will be useful to their peers in the OSDL working
groups. We look forward to Open Country bringing their experience in
factoring TCO for a variety of business models to OSDL's Desktop Linux
Working Group."
