Novell to Include MySQL in NetWare 6 (eWeek)

eWeek covers a Novell announcement that MySQL will be included in future releases of NetWare. "Some Novell customers agree. Deutsche Lufthansa AG approached Novell some time ago and suggested it provide Apache, MySQL and PHP on NetWare.
"There is strong demand from companies, like Lufhansa, who want to run these applications on a platform that can provide strong support while offering time-tested reliability and performance," said Antonio Mastrolorito, who works for Lufthansa Systems Infratec, the airline's IT infrastructure solutions group.

Too bad they don't go for a fully SQL-compliant real DBMS, such as PostgreSQL, SAPdb or Firebird... MySQL lack of features actually means less performance, no data integrity, more system complexity.

Last time I used Netware, it didn't even have virtual memory.
Running databases on that meant that you would crash your
database if you ran out of RAM... Is Novell Netware really
a solid OS for database servers today?

It was also less than fun to develop for as far as I
understand. At least at some major database vendor, it
was nick-named Novell Nightmare.

By the way, I'd suspect that MySQL has many more new
installations than Netware these days.

I don't dispute that Netware has been very successful
for file and printer sharing, but is it really a viable
option beyond that?
