I did not ask about that. Intuitively, it seems that you're not selling anything in this case? I'll see if I can get clarifications...

There's no consideration. There is (presumably) no contract. Therefore there is no commercial activity and the CRA shouldn't (doesn't) apply.

As soon as you sell SOMETHING ELSE and say "you need to download this app to make it work", you have commercial activity, you have a contract, and you're on the hook. Even if it's not your software!
