This Expo was a good occasion to check the status of the current relationship between free and open source software and Italian public administrations of any size and scope. To sum it up, it looks promising, but it's still schizophrenic. From talk to talk, visitors noted that public administrations are required by a government directive to make documents available in non-proprietary formats, and that digital signatures can be exchanged with the central administration through Linux."

Going off of reports from other debian folks there, the .orgs were relegated to the back of a room being used for talks, instead of the usual compromise of a less visible corner of the main area that is usual for these sorts of events. Word on the street is that the organization of the whole thing was entrusted to a local organizer without much of an idea of how the open source world works, although since I wasn't there in person, I will leave further comments to those who were. The organizers gave very poor space to .org's
