GIMP just migrated to GTK3 a couple of months ago, about 4 years after the GTK2 EOL.

Any wagers on when they move to GTK4 or GTK5?

GTK3 runs native on Wayland. Most users will probably be fine with running GTK3 apps for quite a while.
