Agreed (2nd part of the sentence). I've seen some other places become much friendlier *after* they dropped the +1 button, which tends to excite participants and encourage them to respond again. But we're getting out of topic now :-)

Understandable
Actually I felt that Phoronix forums got a lot better after adding the +1. Otherwise, the people who were being bigots you can see that most of the readers didn't care for their comments.
