Hm. Elections with just one candidate.

What next, comrades?

Did you try to become a candidate and were refused for some reason? Or do you know of someone else who was?

Of course he wasn't and doesn't. It's just that no one but Zac applied for the "job".

In all Debian elections there's also the "None of the above" candidate. If NOTA had won over Zac, then there would've been a new round of nominations.

But I guess you're just trolling.

I took that as a witticism myself. There are enough trolls everywhere, no need to look for more :-)

Mostly yes, it's trolling.

However, elections with just one candidate almost always indicate that there are problems somewhere.

That's true for a country, but for a project like Debian it most likely just means that the current leader did a good job.

In fact, given that project leader tends to be a thankless task, and that numerous previous project leaders have declined to run after a single term in office, Debian may be lucky that they were able to come up with as many candidates as they did!

I think that's the interesting part of this - was there just one candidate because the other potential DPLs all thought he was doing a good job, or because no-one else wanted to do it. And if it's the latter, is there a risk to Debian of not being able to find anyone prepared to be DPL in future?

I believe it's the former; Stefano seems to be one of the most energetic and effective leaders the project has had in some time.

I agree, and asserted as much in the interview recently posted here.

Zack's been doing an awesome job, and has won a lot of support for that.

Congratulations for Stefano Zacchiroli.

Given the election method yet people still elected him even though he's the only candidate, I'm sure this is because of his excellent leadership in the first term.

Thanks everybody!

(... and for the folks worrying about a forthcoming "communist revolution" within Debian, don't worry too much: it is on my TODO list, but it is far lower than the "total world domination" item :-P)
