It's nice that Kees is trying to get Google to take over that. Wouldn't it be better, however, if Google could sponsor Eric to do that part- or full-time? With assistance from Google staff if required.

Simple psychology - if Eric is assisted he will presumably continue producing high-quality work. His example will inspire more people to scratch itches (I've got more than enough if only I could find the time :-) And if it's an assigned task at work it's probably going to cost more for less, poorer quality, work.
