There have been several notable examples in just the last year of projects fragmenting due to squabbles over trademarks, domain names, etc. that could have been avoided completely had the project been under the umbrella of a non-profit foundation.<br> <p> I worry about the long term future of several large/popular open source applications that are driven by a single for-profit entity that owns all of the assets.
