I have been aware of his work since the FFII activities against software patents and recently met him in person at an EPFSUG meeting in Brussels, and from what I can tell he certainly deserves this!

Great choice indeed!

In 2002-2005 I was impressed by his ability to network and coordinate politicians (and their assistants). By 2011 I'm impressed by his perseverance.

Being the underdog in every single battle, year after year takes its toll.

For people not closely related to the Nordic region it could probably also be added that:

People all over our communities have been solicited to nominate people and organizations they think deserve this prize.

The jury that finally voted Erik the winner of the prize consists of a bunch of Nordic Free Software persons, including the winners from the previous years.
