It meets both of your criteria: A somewhat LaTeXy syntax and ok looking formulae.<br> </div> Mon, 10 May 2010 12:42:25 +0000 Beamer (Latex) https://lwn.net/Articles/386973/ https://lwn.net/Articles/386973/ njs <div class="FormattedComment"> I'm not sure what you mean by "latexy". The two things that would be needed are 1) you can enter equations in latex syntax or something similarly convenient, 2) tex-quality rendering. MathML guarantees neither, and I really doubt OO can do either (or anything even in the same ballpark), but I'd be happy to be proved wrong.<br> <p> I do have a little script for converting a file full of latex equations into PNGs that I use when using Impress. It works okay. But I'm not really fond of Impress for all sorts of other reasons too.<br> </div> Mon, 10 May 2010 06:15:43 +0000 Beamer (Latex) https://lwn.net/Articles/386881/ https://lwn.net/Articles/386881/ paulj <div class="FormattedComment"> OpenOffice's MathML is latexy, and presumably you can either use MathML directly in impress, if not you definitely should be able to paste them in via OOs internal "OLE". ??<br> </div> Sat, 08 May 2010 22:31:41 +0000 Beamer (Latex) https://lwn.net/Articles/386870/ https://lwn.net/Articles/386870/ njs <div class="FormattedComment"> Beamer is awesome, but really designed for bullet-point/text heavy presentations with the occasional canned graphic thrown in (text is what latex does, after all). I can't stand it myself, because my slides always end up being driven by the visual layout of elements, so I need a direct manipulation interface to lay them out.<br> <p> If only inkscape were a presentation program -- with the right extensions it does excellent formulas too :-/<br> <p> (There are some hacky tools to use inkscape as if it were a presentation program, but they're hacky.)<br> </div> Sat, 08 May 2010 18:56:47 +0000 Beamer (Latex) https://lwn.net/Articles/386744/ https://lwn.net/Articles/386744/ jschrod <div class="FormattedComment"> Yes, and we are lucky that Till Tantau passed on maintainership of beamer to Vedran Mileti\'c a few weeks ago in April, after it lay dormant since 2007. So hopefully we get a new release very soon, Vedran and Joseph Wright are very active in collecting patches.<br> <p> So it might be old, but it's not dead!<br> <p> Joachim (one of the CTAN admins)<br> </div> Fri, 07 May 2010 08:20:49 +0000 Beamer (Latex) https://lwn.net/Articles/386683/ https://lwn.net/Articles/386683/ jengelh <div class="FormattedComment"> Not to mention that there oodles of other output formats available with latex. :-)<br> </div> Thu, 06 May 2010 22:38:52 +0000 Beamer (Latex) https://lwn.net/Articles/386474/ https://lwn.net/Articles/386474/ tnoo <div class="FormattedComment"> For lazy old-timers like me, the Latex Beamer package is still the most convenient way to go, especially since formulas render nicely. And the output is PS or PDF, which means it looks the same on all platforms.<br> </div> Thu, 06 May 2010 07:50:14 +0000 An early look at Glide - Presentation SW https://lwn.net/Articles/386443/ https://lwn.net/Articles/386443/ dmag <div class="FormattedComment"> A little OT, but I've been using Slidedown to make pure HTML presentations. The input is easy to edit (markdown) so you can focus on content. The output won't knock anyone's socks off (although it has code highlighting), but it's different enough that some people will wonder what "cool presentation software" you used.<br> <p> <a href="http://github.com/nakajima/slidedown">http://github.com/nakajima/slidedown</a><br> <p> </div> Thu, 06 May 2010 03:14:25 +0000
