He made lots of enemies. Lots of people hate him. He acts like dick all the time. -- but, he is able to support his technical decision with reasons.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone hating him. A few quite ignorant people on places like reddit - the internet peanut gallery if ever there was one - like to bring up isolated instances of him being a little rude every time his name comes up. I don't think they hate him, though.

I realize that this is hyperbole on your part, but Linus does not act like a jerk all the time, or even most of the time, or even frequently. In order to assert any of that, you have to ignore most of the mundane messages that Linus sends out, as well as the mundane and even friendly interactions he has with people online and in person. Since he is famous, any negative message from him makes news. Being the top maintainer, he often has to gatekeep and be the bearer of bad news for someone's pet feature or idea, and as the arbiter of last resort he sometimes has to settle contentious debates. But how many situations has he handled in the last year in a jerky fashion, versus the total amount of interactions he's had in that time frame?
