Distribution quote of the week

We have over 200 booting devices now. Yes, booting is the operative word, with most of these ports you get more of a Raspberry Pi alternative than a functional phone experience with postmarketOS.

Mildly excited to see that they're gradually pushing for mainline kernel support for the SoC on my phone (it's a decade old, but still works well enough for me). I would've liked to run Lineage, but they abandoned it early on.

Booting a self-built vendor kernel on such a device is not trivial.
Booting a mainline kernel is an impressive feat considering that there is no public documentation of those phones.
Booting a mainline kernel and being able to make phone calls is something previously unheard of, even Google doesn't have that for their flagship smartphones.
Mad props to the postmarketOS team.

Dear editor, can we please have an article about the current state of postmarketOS and mainline Linux on smartphones? There is roughly one LWN.net article about mainline Linux on smartphones per year, and it seems this year is still missing such an article.
