Announcing the Second Annual CopyleftConf

Software Freedom Conservancy has announced the second annual CopyleftConf, to be held February 3 in Brussels, Belgium, right after FOSDEM. "Participants from throughout the copyleft world — developers, strategists, enforcement organizations, scholars and critics — will be welcomed for an in-depth, high bandwidth, and expert-level discussion about the day-to-day details of using copyleft licensing, obstacles facing copyleft and the future of copyleft as a strategy to advance and defend software freedom for users and developers around the world." The call for papers closes November 3.

Call for Sessions - linux.conf.au 2020 Kernel Miniconf

The Kernel Miniconf at linux.conf.au will take place January 14 in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. "The Kernel Miniconf will focus on a variety of kernel-related topics - technical presentations on up-and-coming kernel developments, the future direction of the kernel, and kernel development community and process matters. Past Kernel Miniconfs have included technical talks on topics such as memory management, RCU, scheduling and filesystems, as well as talks on Linux kernel community topics such as licensing and Linux kernel development process." The call for sessions has an early close date of November 17 and a final deadline of December 8.

openSUSE to have Summit in Dublin

The openSUSE Community has announced the openSUSE Summit Dublin, to be held March 27-28 in Dublin, Ireland. The summit follows SUSECON (March 23-27). "There is an openSUSE and open source track. There are three talks that can be submitted for the summit. One is a short talk with a 15-minute limit;a normal talk with a with a 30-minute limit and a long talk with a 45-minute limit." The call for papers is open until February 14.

Google Code-in 2019 Org Applications are Open

Google is accepting applications from mentoring organizations for Google Code-in (GCI). Pre-university students ages 13-17 are invited to learn hands-on by contributing to open source software. "Each year we have heard inspiring stories from the participating mentors about their commitment to working with young students. We only select organizations that have participated in Google Summer of Code because they have gained experience in mentorship and know how to provide a support system for these new, young contributors." Organizations must apply by October 28.
