Well Belgium went 589 days without a government, I'm sure Debian will get along for quite a while without a DPL :)

I wanted to write the same thing. While I'm personally happy with most of Debians leaders and the work they did as DPLs, I'm sure, that Debian can live well with one release cycle (two years) without formal leader. The time can be used to think about a better model, not with one super hero leader, but with a small group.
