For the last 3 years we see... 2015-06: +$15m, 2016-07: +$14m, 2017-08: +$44m.

The timing would be about right for negotiations about further funding. Perhaps some early investors really want to extract some profit from their investment, right now?

I believe that they just received another round of funding, from Goldman Sachs and Bain Capital, immediately before announcing this "Commons Clause" thing. Draw your own conclusions there.
