I sympathize with this, but it's not Fedora forcing "proprietary driver soup," it's a question of whether we would push an update we know is incompatible with a common user setup.
I'm not arguing for or against it, just noting that the scenario is different than what is suggested by your comment.
There's also a separate argument/discussion around the fact that many users of Fedora do _not_ get to choose their hardware at all. Whether it's because it's work-issued, hand-me-down, or simply a user who is trying to move away from Windows and purchased their hardware before looking to Linux. It is not always as simple as being "careful when selecting hardware."
