As has been exhaustively, exhaustingly documented over and over, if you aren't the target of the bullying you often won't see it -- huge amounts of it happen in private email, in person at moments when others aren't watching, in microaggressions that fly under the radar but build up over time (you see it once and shrug it off, they see it 10x a day for years), etc. etc. etc. The women around you (if there are any) are almost certainly having very different experiences than you. Just read, like... any thread ever where women talk about their experiences in tech.

There are and always have been, and you're just speculating. You think I'm stupid enough not to have thought about them before posting? Nice.

Because, despite everyone laughing about them, Internet forums show a representative and statistically balanced perspective of the real world in its entire truth and complex nuances. For an obvious proof one needs to look no further than this thread.

My post is not going to mark History yet I think it deserves a little bit better than this off the shelf, insulting and completely off the mark outrage. Please read me for real, think twice and then maybe we can have a productive discussion.

marcH, your sarcasm and choice of words create denigrating and demeaning tone. You are talking down to the OP, as though you were an impatient parent attempting to put a child in his/her place. Your commentary is a form of microaggression, similar to the #notallmen hashtag.

You are contributing to the problem.
