GitLab acquires Gitorious

GitLab and Gitorious have announced that GitLab will acquire Gitorious. "Starting today, Gitorious.org users can import their existing projects into GitLab.com by clicking the “Import projects from Gitorious.org” link when creating a new project. Gitorious.org will stay online until the end of May 2015 to give people time to migrate their repositories."

Samba user survey

The Samba team is running a user survey until the end of March. "This survey will help us improve Samba and its documentation by better understanding your needs and listening to your suggestions. If you are a Samba user, no matter how you use Samba from just experimenting through to production deployment, we are really keen to get your feedback. And please do encourage other Samba users to fill it in as well."

Jonas Öberg joins FSFE as Executive Director

The Free Software Foundation Europe has announced that Jonas Öberg has joined the organization as Executive Director. "Jonas Öberg is one of FSFE's founding members, and was the organisation's vice president from 2001 through 2008. He has considerable experience in managing Free Software-related projects and organisations. Before joining as the organisation's Executive Director, he has been a Shuttleworth Foundation Fellow working on the Elog.io project to create a global provenance repository for creative works, worked as Creative Commons' regional coordinator in Europe, lectured in Software Engineering and built up the conference FSCONS in its original form."

"The purpose of this report is to inform the industry about the latest Linux job trends and how they impact the ability of professionals to find rewarding Linux job opportunities and for employers to attract and retain qualified talent."

pgDay Paris

The first pgDay Paris will be held in Paris, France on April 21. "We are very soon to open proposals for presentations at the conference. We hope to see submissions from people new in the community as well as seasoned PostgreSQL experts, from both locals and representatives of the global community. In short, from anybody who has an interesting story to tell about PostgreSQL, whether it's a deeply technical talk or a story about a successful (or failed) usage." Talks may be in French or English.

DebConf15

Registration is open for DebConf15, which will take place in Heidelberg, Germany, August 15-22. As usual DebConf is preceded by DebCamp, August 9-14. "To request food, accommodation, or travel sponsorship, you must be registered by Sunday, 29 March 2015. After this date, registrations will still be accepted in any of the basic, professional, and corporate categories, but requests for sponsorship will no longer be accepted."
