The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
(Long-Term Support) for its Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core products,
as well as other flavours of Ubuntu with long-term support.

We have expanded our hardware enablement offering since 12.04, and with
14.04.2, this point release contains an updated kernel and X stack for
new installations to support new hardware across all our supported
architectures, not just x86.

As usual, this point release includes many updates, and updated
installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to
be downloaded after installation. These include security updates and
corrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining
stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Kubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, Edubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, Xubuntu 14.04.2 LTS,
Mythbuntu 14.04.2 LTS, Ubuntu GNOME 14.04.2 LTS, Lubuntu 14.04.2 LTS,
Ubuntu Kylin 14.04.2 LTS, and Ubuntu Studio 14.04.2 LTS are also now
available. More details can be found in their individual release notes:

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TrustyTahr/ReleaseNotes#Official_...

Maintenance updates will be provided for 5 years for Ubuntu Desktop,
Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Cloud, Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Kylin, Edubuntu, and
Kubuntu. All the remaining flavours will be supported for 3 years.

Does 15.04 use systemd as PID 1? I installed a snapshot not too long ago, which had some systemd utilities, but was still not running systemd as pid 1.

It supports both. You can choose them in GRUB.

Which one is default?

I like to pick up the updated kernels with Ubuntu LTS releases, but findmnt (part of util-linux) is broken with 14.04 and lts-utopic. This is harmless, but annoying. More importantly, it makes me wonder if the lts-* kernels are a good idea for me to be using.

A very casual look at "findmnt" on my "trusty" machine suggests that it outputs data that appears to be correct. In fact, I had never used it before, and I am glad you pointed this tool out; it handles a couple of obscure corner cases much better than I would have expected. So, I think going forward I'll use it in scripts, instead of trying to parse /proc files myself.

Just out of curiosity, what are you trying to do that doesn't work? Did you file a bug?

findmnt works fine on trusty with the 3.13 kernel. When I upgrade to the 3.16 kernel (linux-virtual-lts-utopic), findmnt only displays /dev/pts. I don't see an equivalent linux-*-lts-vivid kernel or util-linux upgrade to test, so not sure where the new kernel is for the 14.04.2 release.

BTW, you might also like lsblk, and lots of other util-linux goodies.

Looks like the problem actually appeared in kernel 3.14...
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.utilities.util-linux-...

...and was fixed in an update to util-linux
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/utils/util-linux/util-linux.g...

On my Utopic machine:
steve@t520:~$ uname -a
Linux t520 3.19.0-031900-generic #201502091451 SMP Mon Feb 9 14:52:52 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
steve@t520:~$ findmnt -V
findmnt from util-linux 2.25.1

I filed this is a bug at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug....

Seems like the best solution would be to have some form of util-linux-lts-utopic package that tracks with the version of util-linux corresponding the the 3.16 utopic kernel. There are a few other tightly-coupled kernel packages that would also seem to benefit from such an arrangement (e.g. btrfs-tools). This, to me, has always been the main failing of the Ubuntu LTS Enablement Stack: no user-space support for the newer kernel features.

Since having upgraded my Xubuntu desktop system (14.04.2)
to the HWE stack (kernel 3.16-30-generic, Xorg 15.0.1 and
Mesa 10.1), my X server crashed several times - which
never occurred before.
Is this problem experienced by other users, too
(especially using Intel graphics: my system has
a 3000 HD with Sandy Bridge and i7-2600K)?
