It's easy to lob cheap shots when you omit inconvenient parts of your opponent's argument.

This ganging up on Ian by (a few) systemd proponents is disgusting and shameful. You're acting like schoolyard bullies gossiping and badmouthing others behind their backs.

This pattern of behavior is the worst problem about systemd, in which a few of its proponents give all the rest a bad name, derailing technical arguments and destroying any faith that others are acting in good faith.

The biggest effect of systemd on Debian and the wider community may be to reveal the character of the people involved, and these hard truths will have a lasting effect, diminishing camaraderie and retarding progress for years to come.

I think you'll be relieved to hear that recently the general attitude among Debian developers appears to be one of "Let's put the controversy behind us and make this thing work". Reason seems to have found its way back in, and we all want to make Jessie the best Debian release ever (for systemd and sysvinit users). The RC bug count is going down in a very satisfactory way, and things aren't really looking all that bad. Rumours of the project's death seem wildly exaggerated.
