Hildon Foundation assumes ownership of Maemo trademarks
The Hildon Foundation announced that it has reached an agreement with Nokia over the trademarks and other branding assets of the Maemo project. The agreement transfers the trademarks, pending trademark applications, and domain names—including maemo.org—to Hildon, who will take on "full responsibility and liability for the maintenance and support of all the activity that is and will be on-going on the Maemo Website.
" While undoubtedly a victory for the still-active Maemo community centered around Hildon, the announcement points out that Hildon will not be undertaking customer support for the existing Maemo devices.

They have funded several interoperability features with Microsoft OOXML, and are an important source of information on the situation of large LibreOffice deployments', says Thorsten Behrens, TDF Chairman."

LCA 2015 Call for Volunteers
Linux.conf.au is coming to Auckland, New Zealand January 12-16. "Volunteers are needed to register our delegates, show them to their accommodation, guide them around the University and transport them here and there. They will also manage our speakers by making sure that their presentations don't overrun, recording their presentations and assisting them in many other ways during their time at the conference. Anyone who has been a volunteer before will tell you that it’s an extremely busy time, but so worthwhile. It’s rewarding to know that you’ve helped everybody at the conference to get the most out of it. There's nothing quite like knowing that you've made a difference."
