Python2 has no difficulty handing these kinds of things, in Python3 this gets annoying because even simple things become complicated like the Header example in the article.
The world is ASCII centric, that's just the way it is. Rather than denying it, lets give programmers the help they need to port the billions of lines of Python2 code to Python3.
(FWIW I'm happy that this discussion is happening. The whole formatting mess has caused more than one Py2->3 porting effort to be abandoned.)
