Chinese developers place confidence in open source (ZDNet)

ZDNet reports on the shift of Chinese software developers toward open-source. "One of the world's first surveys of Chinese application developers has provided data supporting indications that the country's infant software industry is turning to open source solutions."

Since China is a `1-disk country' anyway, it may as well start the copying cascade with the most flexible and adaptable kind of software available. (-:

Critics of China forget US history

Until very late in the 19th century, the US did not honor foreign copyrights or patents. Charles Dickens was the most popular author in the US in the mid 19th century, and he didn't get a dime from his US readers and publishers. The US became an industrial power by "stealing" British designs for factory equipment.

Given this history, it's hypocritical for Americans to attack the Chinese for their loose enforcement of copyright law.
