Agreed on containment. No issue there. The issue is standardizing the user experience on an Android version running in a car. Google's foremost concern is on making sure that the user experience of "Android" is consistent across; to their credit I must add. The Compliance Definition Document doesn't actually specify that Android must run on bare metal. In fact, it doesn't even require that you use the AOSP (at least last I checked.)

So, in sum, if the issue is fault-tolerance then we probably have closer points of view than this forum will allow us to demonstrate ;) But that's not the angle I was reading this announcement from.
