Mageia 4 already! (Mageia Blog)

The Mageia Blog covers the schedule for Mageia 4. "After some weeks of (interesting) discussions, we went though the features process to define the official list for Mageia 4. The choice was based on the existing policy. As usual, we received a lot of proposals."

Mageia 4 already! (Mageia Blog)

Mageia has 3.5 months where it is in version freeze (cannot just upload new versions). I find that totally crazy. You have to ask for every small thing if it can be uploaded, results in loads of manual work as well as time spent tracking if your request went through. This for the entire "development" version. There is no branch or anything.

I find that rather annoying, you cannot work on anything new, and fixing existing things takes way more effort. Some more trust in existing packagers would be nice.

e.g. if some GNOME package is at 3.10.x, it should be totally fine to upgrade it to 3.10.x+1. What probably will happen is that the release date will slip as usual, and those 3.5 months because 5.5 or so. Which means not being able to test anything for GNOME.
