Oh, please! This is extremely easy to fix inside your affected unit file, without any upstream patches. I have this exact situation, and it works like this:

ExecStop=-/bin/kill -TERM $MAINPID
ExecStop=-/bin/sh -c "seconds=0; while [ -d /proc/${MAINPID} -a $seconds -lt 60 ]; do echo \"waited $seconds seconds for process ${MAINPID} to exit\"; sleep 1; seconds=$(( $seconds + 1 )); done"

Why you would make such a huge fuss about this when the fix is super-simple and easily achievable is beyond me.
