Remember, reverting to the prior (presumably working) version is an option.
This doesn't require that you never introduce bugs, it just means that when you do, you either fix them or revert the repository back to the prior version until you do get it fixed.
why should all the other testers and developers have to suffer forever with a critical bug in your package?
If the bug really isn't critical, then make your case and get the bug downgraded.
