There are times when (upon reading Linus' comments) one feels that he is just good at coding and making wise-cracks --- often using language that would "make a sailor blush". Then there are times when one realises that he has a really clear vision of what role he sees for Linux. This is one of those latter times.
Linux is about empowering users, about giving them a chance to take control of their own machines. It is not about getting users to trust some Big Brother --- be it Microsoft or someone else --- who will tell them that such trust will simplify their life.
That is what the recent instructions from James Bottomley are about. That is what Linus is echoing in his own way. Users should be able to use UEFI to take control of their machines. As developers, we should make it possible for users to do so by providing well-documented code and procedures.
