and Ubuntu has the LTS releases, nobody is talking about eliminating them.

by the way, where is the demand for google to do something similar with Chrome?

Google had benefits of hindsight and created a browser that had almost no extensions API initially, came with a very extensive test suite backed by their ultimate knowledge of Web and from the beginning had a working feedback channel. That allowed them to do the updates without breaking the web while very gradually and carefully exposing more internals for customization as they see the demand. And any breakage they could quickly see and fix.

Still many businesses avoid Chrome exactly because of the lack of a long-term support.
