I didn't cover ikiwiki because it's a wiki compiler. Obviously, it can be (and is) used to generate static web sites but I ran into several issues when trying to use it for such a purpose (e.g. Debian bug 664773). I also didn't mention SSG tools that focus specifically on blogs, such as Octopress.

Anyway, I was thinking of mentioning ikiwiki and Gitit as related tools but in the end didn't. ikiwiki is definitely a good solution in many situations, though.

I'm using ikiwiki in the way you mention (no recentlog or other wiki like things. The only extra pages I have are /smileys and /sidebar, which I get rid of using post-processing.

Here are the relevant parts of my setup file:

underlaydir => '/usr/share/ikiwiki/smiley/',
templatedir => '/usr/share/ikiwiki/templates',
discussion => 0,
add_plugins => [qw{sidebar tag pagestats img meta hXanchors abs2rel smiley}],
usedirs => 1,
allow_symlinks_before_srcdir => 1,
nodiscount => 1,
generator_version => 0,
