QOTW: "What, you read the man pages?!" -- Jeff Hobbs

"Mostly, the answers to my questions on c.l.t. leave me really
impressed..." -- Philipp Roessler

"Whether misinformation is common in c.l.t, you will have to
judge for yourself :-)" -- Donald Arseneau

POTW: Rivet 0.2.0 by the Apache Software Foundation's Tcl group.
"Rivet is a thin, but very efficient layer that unites
Apache - the world's most popular web server, with
Tcl - a simple, powerful and efficient programming
language." "Rivet is currently only available for
Apache 1.3 on various Unix platforms."

The implicit [concat] behavior of commands such as [uplevel]
and [eval] can cause trouble, and not just for newbies. If the
only "safe" way to use them is to pass a single list, then of
what benefit is the implicit [concat]?

I had no idea launching shortcuts was so difficult under Win2K:

The important difference between [after $delay] and [after
     $delay {do something}]:

Never assume that an abitrary string (especially one from the
     user) is a well-formed list:

Rafael Martinez Torres scratches your IPV6 itch:

Something strange with [recursive_glob] in Win2K/Novell-land:

Thanks to Arjen Markus for his summary of recent Wiki activity:
I will not attempt to make categories out of this week's ensemble
of Wiki pages: each could have its own, I imagine.

Testing is a traditional subject for Tcl, <http://wiki.tcl.tk/2604>,
but a few new pages that refer to specific approaches to testing:
  <http://wiki.tcl.tk/10127> and <http://wiki.tcl.tk/10128>

Scotty is a well-known extension for Tcl, dealing with SNMP. The
Wiki page <http://wiki.tcl.tk/8437> claims it is alive and kicking,
but can someone fill in this page with more information?

A thorny subject this, session management: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/10050>
  is only the beginning.

Here is a little application for getting rid of spam before it reaches
  your mail reader ... <http://wiki.tcl.tk/10114>

BLT is another well-known extension. Did you know about its support
for vectors? They can be used without Tk - <http://wiki.tcl.tk/3316>

Starkits and starpacks require only a slightly different approach to
program development, but <http://wiki.tcl.tk/10099> is an attempt to
formulate how to take advance of the difference.

The performance of this little script (simulating the UNIX utility grep)
is fine with small files, but how can we improve it for largish files?
  Ideas welcome at <http://wiki.tcl.tk/8405>

And finally: another topic for optimisation - tail call recursion as
  discussed at <http://wiki.tcl.tk/1348>

Everything Tcl-related you want is probably one or two clicks away in these
pages:
The "Welcome to comp.lang.tcl" message by Andreas Kupries
        http://www.purl.org/net/tcl-welcome

The Tcl Developer Site is Tcl's "home base".
	http://www.tcl.tk

Larry Virden maintains a comp.lang.tcl FAQ launcher
        http://www.purl.org/NET/Tcl-FAQ/

The Tcl Developer Xchange is a highly organized resource center
of documents and software with provisions for individuals to
maintain references to their own software:
        http://www.tcl.tk/resource/
The TDX sponsor, ActiveState, also keeps info to convince your
boss Tcl is a good thing
        http://www.tcl.tk/scripting/

The Tcl'ers Wiki is a huge, dynamic, collaboratively edited repository
of documentation, examples, tutorials and pontifications on all things
    Tcl.
        http://wiki.tcl.tk/0
For the ideal overview of the topics about Tcl most likely to
interest a newcomer, see "Arts and Crafts ..."
        http://wiki.tcl.tk/969

ActiveState maintains binaries distribution and development tools
        http://www.activestate.com/Tcl
along with a Cookbook of Tcl recipes
        http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Cookbook/Tcl

Cameron Laird tracks several Tcl/Tk references of interest
        http://phaseit.net/claird/comp.lang.tcl/

Cetus Links maintains a Tcl/Tk page with verified links
        http://www.cetus-links.org/oo_tcl_tk.html

    Google Groups archives comp.lang.tcl.announce posts
        http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tcl_announce/

Previous - (U)se the (R)esource, (L)uke! - messages are listed here:
  http://www.ddj.com/topics/tclurl/
An alternative is

Suggestions/corrections for next week's posting are always welcome.
