Why not? What is so bad about that? I voted for a third party and got nothing for it. Seems better to sell the vote for the highest price and then use the proceeds either for my own benefit of the benefit of the party I support.

Because the "currency" you are getting in return for voting a certain way may not be cash. It could, for example, be a promise not to beat you up.
