The fact that you don't understand what this program is trying to achieve doesn't mean it is wrong. And yes, it is insulting to keep blabbing on despite several people already having take the time to explain things to you. You're either not reading/listening, incapable of understanding or unwilling. In each case, I suggest to give it a rest and get over it. You're not loosing anything over this, really.

Given that shmget's been babbling on using the same flawed arguments and dominating every LWN conversation on the subject for years, and has totally ignored any attempt to point out the giant gaping flaws in his reasoning, I don't see that anything will make him shut up. Just killfile him already.

Thanks for the good advice, done. Blujay is also a good addition to your killfile.

I miss the good old day when people on LWN.net were not afraid of saying "you are right and I was wrong". Yes, it has happened before.

I'm wrong every so often and I say that here when it happens. So no worries, it has not died. I just think we have more trolls, and unfortunately LWN is like a free for all (behave like you want, only action in extreme cases).

In any case, suggest to also killfile me, because I don't kind killfiles acceptable. I won't let bad comments go unanswered. Not answering those comments gives the impression that everyone agrees IMO.

You are entitled to your opinions and especially your tastes: if you dislike killfiles then don't use them, but you are not going into mine unless you repeat your opinions on 80% of your comments (or defend them with vile techniques).

As a reader, reading the same trollish arguments over and over detracts from the LWN.net experience (and the sadly limited time I have for it right now). I like reading articles with many comments when they are thoughtful and informative; when they just consist of one or two threads started with tired arguments it is very disappointing. Right now the filter has only left seven comments unless I take the trouble to expand filtered comments: nice!

As a writer, I get your point but again life is too short.

I often think about that exact XKCD picture when I reply :)

Except I include a small change: s/Internet/LWN or Phoronix/

Sometimes I wish I could refrain myself, but I also find it impossible not to answer those comments.
