Should systemd now take over those functions as well?
the "unix way" that you are so dismissive of would be to provide a tool to use when starting things, and then that tool could be used by lots of different users, including ones that you don't think of.
The biggest proof of true 'unix way' is when you show the developer of a component what you are doing with it and they are so startled that they exclaim "I didn't know that was even possible".
I've seen this happen a few times, and heard of it happening more times over the years with Unix/Linux based software.
I'm not sure I've ever heard of it happening with other systems.
