I had considered that one, actually, and maybe should have gone with it. The idea wasn't to highlight a clever insult (it wasn't all that clever) but to illustrate how one part of the community views another.

Everyone jokes about how stupid and lazy driver authors are. I'm guilty of that in the email that Russell was replying to. You'd have to be some kind of imbecile to actually believe it though. Surely kernel developers aren't *that* egotistical... ;)

Maybe I'm just too nice a guy, but I always take lines like that as tongue-in-cheek hyperbole; i.e. I assume the best of the writer. I don't consider it an insult unless it was intended to hurt.
