Well another similarity to NVIDIA I expect, is that this Broadcom blob can also scribble over whatever memory it likes.

So should you trust kernel bug reports from RPi systems?

As I understand it, this blob is in the user space. It can only scribble over its own memory.

The user-space blob on the ARM side is what BCM have open-sorced. The remaining closed component is the GPU firmware which can indeed scribbl over anything it likes since the GPU is in many ways the main processor.
