If GTK fails it isn't going to make QT better or make KDE more popular. Free software isn't a zero sum game.
Duh, even IF that one developer on GTK would move to Qt, it wouldn't make much difference on the few hundred people already working on Qt ;-) But I do, like the others here, wonder why you come up with that response to Boudewijn?!?

It stands to reason that if GTK, due to developer scarcity or for whatever other reason, stops being a viable proposition for the development of graphical applications for Linux, people will eventually have to use something else instead.

Of course whether that would be Qt or something different altogether, or whether that would be a reason for exultation on anybody's part, is an open question.
