Kernel configuration for distributions

Linus's proposal is that there be a choice for "Distribution configuration" or something like that, if that doesn't get chosen, nothing changes from today's situation. Or one could choose F17, say, get its defaults, then go in and remove that option from .config and reconfigure however you like.
