Traditionally, many people have tried out Linux by installing it as dual-boot on a Windows PC, so this is actually quite important to the Linux community. A world where Windows 8 PCs can't easily have Linux installed will see much less growth in Linux usage, at least on PCs - and of course Windows 8 on ARM is completely locked down a la iPad.
