MS or SCO

I can just see Microsoft or SCO putting in an ad. Sure, Mandrake would very likely reject it, but it's still a funny thought. ~,^ And then, I *have* seen MS ads in several very-much Linux oriented publications...

Adware sucks! I can't see how they could stoop any lower in order to stay in business.

How is it adware? it sounds like it's easily replaceable, which is nothing like adware. Redhat's browsers default to redhat sites or information, so the only difference is it points somewhere else. It's only adware if you can't shut it off...

I dunno, have you used the "free" (as in monetarily) version of Opera? It works well and I don't even notice the "ad" part of the "adware" myself. But maybe that's just me....<mini-rant>
BTW, as much as I love Mozilla, I'm tired of it crashing on some gosh awful constructed-exclusively-for-IE web page and taking down a half hour's worth of "search research." I mainly use Moz, but I've only had Opera crash on me *once*. And when it came back up it took over right where it left off. Do I simply not know how to get Moz to do that, or does Moz just plain not do it?

Slightly off-topic, but anyway, you've obviously been very unlucky. I am using Mozilla 1.4 and it has virtually never crashed on me. I can't remember the last time. The only (few) sites I can't view are those that explicitly detect and block real browsers - one of my pet hates. FWIW, Marks & Spencer is the most idiotic offender: they allow Netscape 6.1+ but block Mozilla, evidently because they don't know it exists.Anyway, Konqueror crashes lots on me, but Mozilla never does. Unfortunately, if it does crash, I don't think there's a pick-up where you left off feature....

I'm using galeon 1.2 which uses gecko to render pages. I think it crashed only 3 or 4 times as long as I used it. It has this pick-up-where-you-were function.

I can't see how they could stoop any lower in order to stay in business.Obviously, you haven't been following the news. Ever heard of SCO?
Go see what Mandrake is doing. It's not intrusive, it's not "stooping." It's finding a way to continue to provide a damn fine distro. The sad thing is that the folks at Mandrake have to look for this kind of revenue because there are a lot of users who just download the distro and don't support them in any way -- not with money, nor code.

SCO? Bah. Ever heard of Verisign?(fresh from a day of BIND recompilation and staring at mail logs to be sure the thing's actually working right after bad reports on the bind9-users list... still seething...)

They've specifically stated that there will be no ads in the screensaver.
Also note that the installer already shows ads...

...but nobody even noticed, because they're ads for Mandrake themselves.
