SFLC, EFF seek DMCA exemptions
It's that time in the three-year cycle of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act where interested parties can petition for exemptions to its anti-circumvention provisions. The Software Freedom Law Center has put out a press release on its request for an exemption allowing owners of personal computing devices to install any software they choose on those devices. The Electronic Frontier Foundation, instead, is asking for an extended right to jailbreak devices, once again, so that different software can be installed.

Two New Web Design Books from SitePoint
SitePoint has released two new books on web site design; "The WordPress Anthology" by Mick Olinik and Raena Jackson Armitage, and "PHP Master: Write Cutting Edge Code" by Davey Shafik, Lorna Mitchell and Matthew Turland.

Final keynote for linux.conf.au 2012 to be given by Jacob Appelbaum
The final keynote speaker at the 2012 linux.conf.au (LCA) will be Jacob Appelbaum, an "independent internet security professional, accomplished photographer, software hacker and world traveller." LCA 2012 will take place January 16-20, 2012 in Ballarat, Australia.
SCALE: The Next Generation Invitation
