It does distinguish... From my current 8.0 64-bit:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0

And, from 32-bit 7.0 (the newest 32-bit build I've got lying around):

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686 on x86_64; rv:7.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0

Ah, interesting!

Ok, I filed a bug,
