I agree, people who aren't interested in Mono apps have enough of an interest in _not having_ Mono that they can be expected to know the two/three somewhat popular apps - it's very easy to notice that when I remove Mono from my system, the two apps I don't need, tomboy and banshee, are removed (replaceable by gnote and rhythmbox if in need of a similar but lighter program). Now in newest Ubuntu there is also the Unity lenses related to banshee, and earlier there was F-Spot before Ubuntu switched from F-Spot to Shotwell by default.

I mostly remove Mono since I don't want to accidentally run a memory and disk usage hungry software, which is quite easy if the distribution has chosen to semi-integrate something done in Mono. If it wasn't for these integrations that cause accidental Mono startup churns, I wouldn't mind Mono - on the other hand, then the Mono wouldn't be in the distribution by default in the first place.

Well, as an addition, if I'd only run Fedora or other non-mono-by-default distribution, there would be chances I wouldn't have heard of Banshee. But not too high chances I think, since I did hear about Banshee many times before Ubuntu switched from Rhythmbox to it, and I even tried it once or twice (after thinking that maybe Mono had gotten lighter which it hadn't).
