Metrowerks Adds LinuxR Kernel-Level Debugging Capabilities to
CodeWarrior Development Environment
Metrowerks Supports Kernel-Level Debugging for ARMT R Processors,
Targets PowerQUICCT, ColdFireT and Other Architectures for Future
Releases
AUSTIN, Texas - August 12, 2003 - Metrowerks has added kernel-level
debugging capabilities to its comprehensive line of development tools
for LinuxR environments with the launch today of the CodeWarriorT
Development Studio, ARMR ISA Edition for LinuxR Platform Development,
Version 2.0.
The newest offering complements Metrowerks' current lineup of products
focused on the Linux operating system to complete a comprehensive suite
of design solutions that addresses all phases of the product development
lifecycle - from board bring up and kernel-level debugging to
application development and performance analysis.
In addition to its support for ARM processors, Metrowerks expects to
soon extend Linux kernel-level debug capabilities to other
architectures, including Motorola's PowerQUICCT and ColdFireT product
families.
Metrowerks' Linux kernel-level debug capabilities help developers
shorten design cycles and speed time to market by offering the tools
required to review source execution line-by-line, analyze core files and
display memory and data structures.
"Until recently, a dearth of professional grade tools and design
environments hosted by WindowsR operating systems discouraged wide scale
adoption of Linux by traditional embedded developers and major OEMs,"
said Berardino Baratta, Metrowerks chief technical officer and vice
president, Linux Solutions Group. "Over the last year, Metrowerks has
introduced robust, proven development tools targeting Linux systems that
are building critical mass for embedded Linux. This trend continues
with the kernel-level debugging capabilities of CodeWarrior Development
Studio, ARM ISA Edition for Linux Platform Development, Version 2.0,
which also gives developers a single integrated environment for all
phases of the product creation lifecycle."
The solution allows advanced hardware developers to handle stopmode
kernel-level debugging of the Linux kernel using RDI, the open debug
standard for ARM JTAG hardware, essential for activities like debugging
loadable modules. Also included is support for the latest addition to
the Metrowerks CodeTAPR Pro family of run control products - CodeTAP Pro
for XScaleT. The CodeTAP Pro system supports developers all the way
through board bring-up, board support package and device driver
development.
The advanced WindowsR operating system hosted studio also includes a
Linux industry standard GNU compiler, linker, and assembler utilities,
all in a single integrated development environment (IDE).
Metrowerks is a leading force in establishing embedded Linux as a viable
OS for mainstream devices and products. An active investor and innovator
in the embedded Linux space since 1999, the company provides developers
with powerful solutions that help create successful Linux-based products
for mass-market industries.
