The first new book covering PostgreSQL 9.0, and the first title ever
dedicated to performance issues with the database, is now available.
"PostgreSQL 9.0 High Performance" by Greg Smith covers optimization and
troubleshooting techniques gathered from years of work on high traffic
PostgreSQL installations. While it includes coverage of the latest 9.0
techniques, it also includes a by-version performance feature listing
going back to PostgreSQL 8.1, with features only available in later
versions highlighted throughout the text. It's equally suitable for
trying to improve a current PostgreSQL installation, or to plan a new
one using the PostgreSQL 9.0 features.

Downloads of the 468 page e-book text are available immediately from
Packt Publishing. Publication of the associated code samples and
shipping of printed copies will follow soon. A free sample chapter
covering Database Hardware, including critical information about how to
keep your database writes safe with various types of disks and
controllers, is also available for download.

See http://www.2ndquadrant.com/books/ for information about purchasing
this book, and the other upcoming PostgreSQL 9 title coming soon from
2ndQuadrant and Packt, "PostgreSQL 9 Administration Cookbook" by Simon
Riggs and Hannu Krosing. Packt is currently running multiple specials
for those who wish to purchase both books, or the combination of the
print and e-book version of a single title. Note that you have to be
logged into an account on their site before some promotional codes will
be applied to your shopping cart total.
